Garden Walk pictures...

First of all, thank you everyone for your kind comments on yesterdays post; and thank you Jody and Cyn for giving me some great ideas for my big shortening tin/bin. It is still so hot here...not much crafting getting done...actually not much of anything getting done. The humidity in our house right now is registering 100%...is that possible without it actually raining? :) I believe I know what it feels like in a rainforest.
Last weekend Mike and I went to a local Garden Walk. There were over 200 gardens listed and we only saw a fraction of them...the ones that we toured were beautiful. Next year I hope to go again and see more of the ones I missed.
Here are a few of my favorites:

There was a small neighborhood comprised of these cute brick cottages, some of which date back to the 1800's...

The homes were as fun to see as the gardens.

Below, a beautiful Victorian, where the owners were serving homemade peach iced tea...

This is another of the brick cottages...I love it!!! Could I possibly hope to duplicate these window boxes next year for my house?!

This garden was at a beautiful Victorian home, where the owners were both dressed up Victorian style, including a little black bowler hat for the husband and a lovely Victorian gown on the wife...

After the garden tour I had the desire to hit all the garden stores on the way home and buy up tons of plants. The heat, however, and my budget won out...so I didn't come home with any new flowers, but lots of great ideas!

I've abandoned the Knitty Manresa socks. I wasn't in the mood to deal with all those really long floats although I do think the end result would have been pretty.

One of the things I love about stranded color knitting (and why I think it is faster knitting for me) is because of the wonderful feeling of flow you get when you have a rhythm going - kind of like cruising on the interstate. I can weave in floats while keeping the flow but when there are over 20 stitches in one color it interrupts the flow for me - more like stop and go traffic. How's that for the strangest knitting analogy you've ever heard?

I think I'll spend this month working on the two pattern booklets and getting my paperwork organized. I know I wrote down the pattern for this kid's hat now I just need to find it. I think it would be fun with some simple knitted flowers added. I donated the hat to the homeless shelter so this photo is currently all I have.

Well on to the cleaning and paperwork if I can tear myself away from the forums with endless Project Runway speculation about who gets kicked off the show tomorrow night.

Work in Progress Friday & more...

Finally, my Friday post! This is the bag I've been working on. Progress has really come to a standstill, and I am trying to decide whether to add some pom pom trim or rick rack. Vicki of Turkey Feathers has a picture of the cutest Japanese bag with rick rack trim, which I would love to try using some time.
I think since the bag fabric has a cream background, I will end up using the off-white pom pom trim...

And please note the mess I have going on my sewing table... I do not feel deserving of your lovely comments on my 'corners of my home' posts. Truly, I am not that organized and my home is far from perfect. I have thought of posting a 'Messy Corners of my Home' version! :)

On Friday I stopped at the quilt shop again as they were having another of their 30% off days. I only picked up two fabrics ~ the top is a Denise Schmidt Flea Market print and the bottom is Harvest Spice by Nancy Davis Murty.

I also stopped at a few yard sales. I'm not sure why I bought this large shortening tin except I loved the color and it was only a dollar. Now I have to come up with some creative purpose for it!

The two bowls below are Homer Laughlin's Virginia Rose pattern and were only a dollar also...

I thought these two little frames were cute and especially loved the color which is very similar to the tin above...

I am now off to take care of the blueberries and zucchini I picked last night. It was so hot yesterday that I couldn't bear to go out in the garden til after dinner and a swim to cool off. Today is supposed to be even hotter ~ 90's and high humidity ~ and I am sure there are many areas with even higher temps.

I hope to get lots of my work done this morning and spend the afternoon by the pool with a nice cold drink.

Stay cool everyone!
