Gauge, again--a cautionary tale

Dear readers: here is a little summer interlude in the nature of a cautionary tale. TECH- knitting's summer break has allowed time to knit on a big project--a sweater. The body is made with a circular needle, but the arms with dpn's. I forgot, but now remember (the hard way!!) that gauge can change EVEN when you use the same size needles. Knitting with dpn's requires the gauge to be tight enough to prevent the needles falling out of the work, while knitting around with circulars does not present the same issue--you can knit a lot looser because the circular needles aren't going anywhere. Moral of the story: Check your gauge when you switch from one kind of needle to another, regardless of whether the two needles are the same size. That way, you can avoid being an idiot like me--who had to knit a three-armed sweater.

Here's the blindingly bright afghan in progress - this is the Barbara McIntire square.

It is finally August and Peaches the calendar girl is finally on display for everyone who has the Colorado House Rabbit Society calendar. I just hope being a celebrity doesn't go to her head!

H is for Harry Potter

He’s a favorite of mine and or though it has to be said “film 5 really was a little bit of a disappointment” well for me, compared to how good the book was.

But on the other side(the knitting side) the wardrobe department did an amazing job, if you ask me it had the most knit wear to date of any of the “H,P”movies.
And of course that includes a huge amount of home made’s” Molly Weasely creations”(the poor ginger family, lots of kids and all in hand made jumpers with their initials on.)
I have heard that there has been a new knit book for Muggle’s (Harry potter inspired) That I shall be looking out for.

A lot of Gap styling in appearance, machine knits lots of strips but I even noticed a few home made knitted patch worked blankets the 60’s square multi coloured type.
Miss Umbridge has an array of pink knits, even a full length coat. Interesting to know who where the wardrobe makers/ designers for that movie.
As it did the knitters proud.
