Atia of the Julii, inspired crochet dress.

This week......

And last it seems all of last week, I have been mostly making this dress.
Inspired by the tv series Rome (a must see for the over 18)

It is all fantasy, not real and no history used to create this little
number it's straight out of the Tv Box set.

It's been a while (making dresses) I had been busy with my canvas, but I feel pretty strong about this dress.
Enjoying getting lost in my stitches, my approach to making seems to have taken even more of a Laberyinth turn.

Up and down, side to side.  The stitches go where the mood takes me.

It all started with the chain crochet cords hanging above.
Then I picked up the chains and knitted a panel.
Then using the shower puff fabric crocheted the under skirt, well the edges of the shower puff together.
Mixed yarns, tape , cotton, acrylic, charity and even a little silk! Juxtapose
For this sleeve I used the milk silk that I had in my stash.  In the photo above Im attaching the sleeve and creating the begining of the neck line.
Attaching shower puff with the tape yarn (silky blue)
Creating the second sleeve using shower puff and a glitter yarn the silver that you can just about see.  I used to mosaic effect as I thought it looked pretty Roman;-)
Attaching the second sleeve, it still not finished, above you can see a huge gap below the sleeve.   But it's the basic skeltion that I needed to create the top of the dress.
Two wiki below, one about the serise and second the person who played the character.(the one that I was inspired mostly by).  I use inspired loosy as she really was a gutter snipe
(but she played a great character totally hate-able)

Inspiration.
Cleopatra inspired neck line, also the naked delicate fabrics that where
used for many of her outfits in the show.

Teamed with the almost Eastern feel of the outfits created for the Julii family
Appologies for the photos looking slightly drunk, the manniquin is broken and basically swings from side to side.  Making my creating on the manniquin pretty difficult.

My spelling is awful, i'm not only having issues with my manniquin, but also spell check will not work.  Forgivness required;-(

Walking on Lake Ice & Tree Crocheted Graffiti

Yesterday I was having an knitted artist day over load,

my bag packed with things to tag, they have built up.........

I have had many must do!
Must get too days..........(not happened)

So armed with my January's gone, get on with it inspiration.

Packed my bag, took dog off I went.

Sun was bright, snow blinding

(The temperature raised and I could take my gloves off)

Standing on ice, Its big Swedish thing!,

On my list of to-dos.

In the UK, we grow up
with.......

NEVER STEP ON THE ICE!

Here's Rasmus and I

Yes on the ice..........

This is where swim in the summer,

I can tell you the water underneath was probably only as deep as my waist!

But my heart was pounding..........

This teamed with a quick thought of tagging a tree that actually in the lake!

Boom boom boom I thought it ,was going to leave through my throat.

Quick with the tagging (cable tie's)

To turn and see this huge, huge tanker coming through the ice.

The couple with the dog, just ambling along side it.

(unreal)

Captured for prosperity..............

EXTREME SPORT

Utter madness.

Feeling Manic

One day time public tag wasn't enough for me.........

I'd walked on ice

Adrenalin Rush

(Crochet Junky)

I posted the pictures the wrong way round!

The blue tree graffiti is on the lake ice,

1st

The pink fluffy sparkly ,

next

On a hill, alongside lake Malaren.

In the lake

When the big freeze thaws.

Knitted boulder/update

now under a mountain of snow.

My neighbours bright idea

(I set knitting in ice)

But not really thought about flowers but its really effective.

So welcoming, that on my front gate post

I put my frozen pom-pom

Sharing what it is I do, with my neighbour's..........

Smitten With My Mitten

Knitting challenge part two.

Progress so far seems to be one mitten is almost completed, well ready to stitch up.

This time no translating 1st, I just used the diagram instinct first.......
if in doubt translate;-0.

Drifting a little from the challenge,

But a challenge all the same,

Because for me knitting is a bit of a challenge,

It doesn't come naturally like crochet.

But I am addicted to those perfect neat little stitches
that sit patiently in their rows just waiting to be increased.

No stress,
Simple,
Smart and at the same time smug,

As they can sit as long as they like and you can continue..........
When ever, 1hour,1day,1week even 1 year.

Mitten start point it's a higgley piggley post, but that just my personality.
(Yesterdays diary of mitten one)

Slow progress to begin.........why?
As I realised in a coffee shop with no measure its broke and I need to replace it.

Improvisation a business card will do.

I figured
7 cm?ish.......
In fact on texting Rich, 8cm to be precise

So that's what I used to get started a little maths/basic
/me;-)

Pattern(ish)

Size 7 sticks, chunky yarn.
48 stitches to start

17 Cm's Of just Knit.

Then a decrease of around 11 cm (check that)

Then knitted around 12 stitches

Cast of the rest and then picked back up the remaining 12 stitches on the needle.

knitted to end of that row increased but 5 stitches.

Then worked the remaining stitches in knit.

7cm more

Cast off.
