There was one last kitchen project remaining from the remodel started last year, and that was to replace the formica countertop on the island with a concrete counter. After reading up on the technique, planning, and building the form, Mike poured it himself right after New Year's...in the dining room. Here it is after being removed from the form and having been polished...
It was poured in the dining room, as I think it weighed about 500 lbs and would only need to be moved a short way to put it in place.

It's had several coats of sealer, mineral oil, and wax.
It turned out great I think ~ it has a mottled aged look that I was hoping for.
And some new brackets Mike built for support...
