Black Forest Braided Fingerless Gloves

The pattern on the cuff of these gloves is adapted from Co Spinhoven's Celtic Charted Designs by Dover books. You can buy this book new for under $5 and it is a great addition to any colorwork library. I'd estimate over 90% of the charts in the book would have really long floats in stranded color knitting but it is full of inspiring designs.


I recently saw a wonderful photo gallery of crocheted colorwork on Ravelry. Up until then I didn't even know you could do colorwork like that with crochet. HERE is a link showing some of the tapestry crochet from Finland - aren't those sweaters the women are wearing just gorgeous? Photos like that might be enough to get me to learn to crochet.

Sea Mineral Mittens

Here are the Sea Mineral Mittens done in Knitpicks' Palette. I used Calypso Heather and Sky for the main hand pattern and then also all the shades of purple, all the greens, including the new heathers, and a few shades of blue.


I'm too impatient to wait for DH to take action photos so here is one mitten on my hand. I made a few changes to the pattern: I added a pattern repeat before the thumb opening, I made the mitten and fingertips a little flatter, and I moved the right hand thumb to the opposite side of the hand to keep the row join on the outside of the hand.

Bewitching Gloves

A dark cave.
In the middle a cauldron boiling.
Thunder.
Enter the 3 witches.

So begins Act IV, Scene I from Shakespeare's Macbeth.
Of course it is sunny and very hot here and nothing is cooking in my cauldron but here are my Halloween gloves with the chorus of the three witches on the gauntlet cuff.





I used Knitpicks' Palette: almost an entire skein of black, a small amount of white and less than 2 yards of red and orange. The cuffs use size 3mm dpns or circs and the hands and fingers use size 2.5 mm. The pattern is HERE.

I'm not quite sure what to knit next although my project to knit up all my DK weight yarn into thick socks continues. I hope some cold weather arrives soon to give me more knitting energy.

Peace Gloves

I finally finished the second Peace Glove knit in Palette and 2.5 and 2.25 mm dpns. I made them to match the denim jacket I embroidered. I plan to make gloves to wear with each of my coats and jackets so I have two more pairs planned. Sorry about the photos but I had to use the flash as it has been gray and rainy here this week.




Today I sent $204.83 from booklet and pattern sales to the Colorado House Rabbit Society. Also, the lime green and purple socks are on hold because I can't find the right color of purple. This was hard for me to believe because I have a whole container of purple yarns. Instead I started another pair of gloves.

Peace Gloves in Red

These gloves are surprisingly fast to knit. I'm already planning a third pair in black. The hand colorwork will be black and one of the two multicolored skeins of yarn I own (something from Knitpicks' on sale) and then I'll try to match the colors with yarn from the stash for the cuff colorwork.

I'm running out of red so I've made an executive decision to knit the second glove and let the much slower Selbustrikk mittens wait until more red arrives. I also need to get back to work on some socks and I want to knit the hat on the cover of Stranded Color Knitting in better colors.

Peace Gloves

Here are the Peace Gloves knit in 6 colors of Knitpicks' Palette - you need one of the main color (white) and small amounts of the other five. I tried various means of embroidery but ended up with only a small amount on the picot cuff. The pattern is available in print and as a .PDF download HERE.
Next on the agenda is to see how many fun colorwork socks I can knit in my worsted weight purple wool yarn collection. Also, I have photographic evidence of Peaches misbehaving terribly.
